Longhorn of the Month: RHF Sharp Shooter

by Molly Clubb | Apr 07, 2011

With only 16 progeny on Hired Hand websites but receiving an amazing 1,290 hits, RHF Sharp Shooter may be the most well known son of Top Caliber.

Bred by Jim & Barbara Atwell of Royal Heritage Farms he is also out of a tremendous TTT LWC Horn Champion, Burnin' Daylight (purchased by Richard Carroll at the 2011 Legacy Sale).  "Sharp Shooter" is the longest horned 3-year old bull in the breed with 204.5" TH @ 41 mos. -his official 2010 LWC measurement where he won all 4 classes he entered!

Jim knew that he had something special in this outstanding young bull when he bred Sharp Shooter to some of his lesser horned cows, even some Longhorn recips, and got calves with tremendous horn and color.  RHF Sharp Anabelle, RHF Sharp Chex, RHF Sharp Feathers, and RHF Sharp Sue are just a few of the great young heifers that Jim has gotten from mixing Sharp Shooter with "average" cows (one with only 43" of TH!).  When putting Sharp Shooter on top of the line cows he has produced outstanding young calves that can be seen on his Hired Hand website at www.RoyalHeritageLonghorns.com.  The Atwell's offer Sharp Shooter semen for sale at all times as well as bred cows and offspring.
