"We are a small farm located in South Central Kentucky the "Bluegrass State". When we decided to get into raising Longhorns, it wasn't long before our eyes turned to the unique personality & colors of this breed. We know they are a gift from our heavenly Father whom "created all kinds of cattle on the fifth day of creation". Genesis Ch.1 vs 24
Our goal is to raise beautiful painted Texas Longhorn calves in Kentucky with tons of potential. All are eligible for registration with TLBAA."
Q: What is the history behind the name of your farm?
A: "We live on the edge of woods and the trees are mainly hickory and oak. I had a glass business where I made leaded glass (mainly for our custom cabinet shop), and I named it Shady Oak Glass, so it seemed appropriate to use that name for our farm." -Bonnie DeArmond
Q: When & why did you first become interested in Texas Longhorns?
A: "We had a lot of pasture and had tried raising calves, buying in spring and selling them in the fall. Not very much trouble we just wanted something different and both of us had shown interest in longhorns. So we did some research and found a great guy in Dixon Tn, he had a few he wanted to sell and so we began our next journey!! We are very happy we did!!" -Bonnie DeArmond
Q: Tell us a funny or interesting story about your farm.
A: "We had a cow one time that had a calf, when the calf was ready to be weaned we sent it to the stock yard with a few more cows. Our neighbors called us late that night and said we had a cow out., come to find out it was the Mama cow, she was headed to find her calf. We could not catch her and so we called the guy who picked the calf up and told him to bring the calf back!! As soon as he turned onto the highway next to our road the cow ran across the road and ran after the trailer, she followed him all the way back home. Needless to say they both went together when we got rid of them much later!" -Bonnie DeArmond
Q: What is your favorite thing about your farm?
A: "It’s home 😊" -Bonnie DeArmond
